Volunteers went to 8 different Lincoln Unified Elementary Schools 3rd grade classes at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2008. The Rotarians distributed over 630 dictionaries to the surprised children. The children wrote their names in the books, as they were theirs to keep. They immediately began leafing through the pages looking up words. Pages in the dictionaries that seemed most interesting were a list with biographies of the presidents and the international symbols for signing for the deaf. North Stockton Rotarians taking part are listed below, with the school sites, number of students that recieved books and their principles name.

Below is an Email from LUSD.

Dear Judy and North Stockton Rotary:

Our teachers and students are THRILLED with their dictionaries!  I have had several requests for the correct name and address to  use for addressing thank you notes.  I'm assuming that would be you, Judy, but would you let me know?

Thank you for this wonderful gift to our students.  Third graders count the words they read and the words they know.  Your gift of a personal dictionary for each student couldn't have been more perfect.

Thanks!

Lisa Walker
Secretary to the Superintendent
Lincoln Unified School District
