2011 Dictionary Giveaway
March
30th was the date for North Stockton Rotary's Dictionary
giveaway.
It
is designed to advance literacy in Stockton. Started in the 2007-2008
Rotary year, North Stockton Rotary contributed about 650 dictionaries to
3rd graders in Lincoln Unified. Switching to Stockton Unified
in 2008-2009 (because LUSD was already covered), NSR contributed over
1000 dictionaries each year since, covering 14-16 schools each year. In
2010 Rotary Clubs of Stockton under the leadership of Judy Lovett and
Susan Drake, worked together to make sure all third graders in Stockton
Unified School
District
received dictionaries. This year we increased the project by including a
thesaurus for each student. This years volunteers were: Mel
Hansen, Theresa Shapiro, Jim Ellis, Bob Williams, Andy Chesley, Brett
Jolley, Tod Anton, John Conger, Ray Call, Paul Fogle, Jeff Kroll, Jay
Hislop, Donna Kane, Margaret Strader, Dean Welin, Judy Lovett, Wayne and
Carla Hose, Fred Roberts, Lee Neves, John Lindell, Sami Khoury and Jim
Dugoni.
