ROTARY DISTRICT 5220 FRIDAY FACTS
Friday Facts, May 26
Complete Your DSG
For the
last three Rotary years, we have been able to use 20% of our District
Designated Funds from The Rotary Foundation for District Simplified Grants
to clubs to help even with a local community projects. We will not receive
funds during DGE Bob Hobbs year if we don’t get our final reports to Mel
Hansen, so he can send to The Rotary Foundation. If your club received a
grant this year, please get the final report completed and to Mel Hansen,
and let’s not hold up the money for next Rotary year. Let’s show we have
pride in the people replacing us and make their year easier.
Transitional Cabinet Meeting
Saturday
June 3, we will have our transitional cabinet meeting with this year’s
leadership, as well as DGE Bob Hobb’s team. It will be at 8 AM at the
Salida Firehouse, and should conclude by noon. Any Rotarian in the
District is welcome to come hear the great things happening in District
5220.
Group Study Exchange
Next
year’s GSE chair Terri Amerio-Bell has advised me that our next exchange
will be with District 2520 in Japan. Interviews are scheduled for August,
and now is the time for the clubs and Rotarians to start thinking of
possible candidates for Team Leader and Team Members. The team leader
should be an experienced Rotarian, young enough to stay up with a rigorous
schedule. The four team members should be 25-40 years old, and not
directly related to a Rotarian. Applications can be downloaded from the
www.rotary.org website under
Foundation programs.
Wheelchairs to Ecuador
PDG Bob
Bitter is planning to take a container of wheelchairs to Ecuador November
5 to 13. About 30 people from District 5220 went with Bob to distribute a
container of wheelchairs in Honduras this past January. More information
about the trip will be coming. We need clubs to step up and make a
donation for this new shipment of wheelchairs. They can send their
donations to Rotary District 5220.
Merced Rotary
President
John Price has informed me that his club had their first ever Educator of
the year award program. The special luncheon, at their regular meeting,
had great coverage from the Merced Sun-Star. I am proud of President John
and Merced Rotary.
Youthact Lauded
Our
webmaster received the following from John Challender, Rotarian from
D5020; Just a note to congratulate the Rotarians who started and are
maintaining support to Youthact and for the online Youthact Handbook. Our
Club Cumberland Centennial, D5020 will be staring the first Youthact club
in our District in September. It will be school based. Another middle
school is also very interested, so we might see two before we know it. I
am proud of Sherri Reusche, and Judy Lovett for their work on Youthact.
Friday Facts Last Installment
June 2
Friday Facts will be the last one that I will be doing. I am leaving for
Europe on June 3 and won’t be back until the end of June. DGE Bob Hobbs
will be starting his Friday Facts the first Friday in July. If any club
has a Rotary Pride moment they want to share, send them to me for
inclusion in the last two Friday Facts. Send to
marko5220@yahoo.com
and I will do my best to make sure people know how proud you are.
With Rotary Pride,
Mark Oliver,
District Governor
