Date: February 24, 2006 To: Assistant Governors, District Leadership Team, Presidents, Secretaries, ICO’s District Committee Chairs, PDGs, District Rotarians From: Mark Oliver, District Governor Subject: Weekly District Update ROTARY DISTRICT 5220 FRIDAY FACTS Friday Facts Feb. 24 Reminder to Clubs In an earlier email I asked clubs to send pictures of club activities/projects to Carol Kennedy to be used on table decorations at our District Conference. We need pictures about 4” X 6” and anywhere from 8 to 10 from each club. Welcome New Members Please welcome to our Rotary family, the newest District 5220 Rotarians: James Christofferson, North Modesto Rotary, sponsored by Randy Siefkin Karl Jepson, North Modesto Rotary, sponsored by Gary Kirkpatrick Chris Elswick, Riverbank Rotary Past Officers Reunion I attended my first Past Officers Reunion on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday of this week. It was designed to keep past RI officers updated on what is going on in Rotary. This is the first year I qualified to go as DG, also from our District was PRID Jerry Barden and Diana, PDG Gordon Kennedy and Carol, and PDG Phyllis Nusz. We had the pleasure to hear from President Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar, RIPE William Boyd, RIPN Wilf Wilkinson, and General Secretary Ed Futa. The POR is held near and at the same time as the International Assembly (mandatory training for all Governors Elect) in order to tap our leaders involved in the Assembly. I came away with renewed confidence in the continuity of our great organization. Loss in our Rotary Family It was reported to me that PDG Joe Blanchard has passed away. Joe and Liz were both members of Stockton Rotary. And Joe was a past member of Manteca Rotary. Joe was 94 years old, and retired as President of Delta College in Stockton. Our sympathy goes out to Joe’s family and friends. TRF Permanent Fund This report from Permanent Fund chair Jim Woodward, Stockton Rotary. PERMANENT FUND DONOR RECOGNITION 2005 SEMI ANNUAL BENEFACTOR REPORT, Every year Rotarians donate millions of dollars to The Rotary Foundation Permanent Fund that serves as an endowment, guaranteeing that the Foundation’s work toward International Understanding and Peace will continue for decades to come. The Rotary Foundation 2005 Semi Annual Benefactor Report shows a total of 64 participants in 20 clubs of District 5220. The Foundation Benefactor Coordinator has asked each club to review and report any discrepancies. A copy of the report will be sent to Club Presidents for review and corrections if necessary. The team members are, Boris Marroquin, Debra Amarante, Kristen Shive, and Sonia Garcia. Four Way Test Speech Contest This contest is for Rotarians, and the contest should have been scheduled by now. This year we will combine the introduction of the Club Presidents and Presidents Elect with our flag ceremony. DGE Bob Hobbs and I will be introducing them, and the country represented by the flag they will carry.
