ROTARY DISTRICT 5220 FRIDAY FACTS

Friday Facts Feb. 17

Angels Centennial Rotary

The newest club in our District, now approaching their first anniversary also is one of the

most well balanced. By that I mean 10 men 11 women in their 21-member club, Carl-

Wilhelm Stenhammar would be proud. The District Governor certainly is. Effective

March 1, this club will be meeting at Greenhorn Creek.

Welcome New Members

Please Welcome the following new members to the Rotary District 5220 family:

John Flynn, Manteca Rotary, sponsored by John Brinton

Sandra Kraft, Angels Centennial Rotary, sponsored by President Clayre

GSE Team to Honduras

Our GSE team was off early this morning to Honduras, they will be arriving in San Pedro

Sula about the same time you read this. They are looking forward to four solid weeks of

activities with the Honduran Rotarians as they hosts and guides. Many of us have great

friends in Honduras, and they should be well cared for. I have ask Anita Hellum to keep

us posted, and if she has time to email me, I will include their progress in Friday Facts.

Conference Raffle

This year at the District Conference we will have raffle prizes at each session, and the

great thing about it, is that you don’t have to buy tickets. You will have a number on your

registration badge, and numbers will be drawn at the end of each session. You do have to

be present to win.

Four Way Test Speech Contest

This contest is for Rotarians, and the contest should have been scheduled by now. Area

contests should be held between Mar 1, and March 15. The final will be April 8th after the

nominating committee meeting (time and location to follow). The District winner will

give his/her speech at the District Conference. The person in charge is Stockton East

Rotarian Marc Jantzen, chair of the District Four Way Test Committee. Marc’s contact

information is phone 209-239-1400 or mmacmar@aol.com please email Marc and let

him know if your club is participating.

Flag Ceremony

One of the impressive things we have at the District Conference is the flag ceremony,

where we march in with the flags of the 70 plus countries we have had either a project or

an exchange with. This year we will combine the introduction of the Club Presidents and

Presidents Elect with our flag ceremony. DGE Bob Hobbs and I will be introducing them,

and the country represented by the flag they will carry.

Rotary Pride

March 1 is the deadline to submit a note to Diana Barden, Rotary Pride Chair, nominating

your club or an individual who exemplify “Rotary Pride”. Saturday, April 29, will be

Rotary Pride Day at the District 5220 District Conference. A day to wear club shirts, hats,

aprons, pins, etc., and that night, at the Governor’s Ball, Diana and I will recognize an

individual and a club who best shows Rotary Pride. The notes, or email received will also

serve to select some Club Presidents to give their Rotary Pride moment from the podium

at the District Conference. Send nominations to Diana at P O Box 1208, Madera CA

93639 or email jerrybarden@comcast.net.

Awards Binders

February is the last month to include activities of the club in the awards binders for the

05-06 Rotary year. They are due at PDG Phyllis Nusz’s office, 5250 Claremont Ave.,

Ste. 123, Stockton, CA by March 10. If you can’t deliver them to Phyllis, call your ADG,

who will be invited to the judging. If you are giving binder to the ADG, email Phyllis at

PJNusz@aol.com and let her know your binder is on the way.

District Governor Nominee

The nominating committee to select the District Governor for the 2008-09 Rotary year

will meet on April 8, 2006. Now is time for clubs to look at their club leaders and

encourage them to step forward. The candidates will need to have served a full term as

Club President, been a Rotarian for 7 years, and been active at the Club and District level.

Nominations will need to be endorsed by a Club in the District. Applications need to be

sent to me by March 8, to qualify as a candidate.

With Rotary Pride,

Mark Oliver, District Governor
