ROTARY DISTRICT 5220 FRIDAY FACTS Friday Facts Feb. 10 Yosemite Tour We have over 100 signed up for the Yosemite Tour and we have about 30 spaces still available. The cost of the tour is $40, which includes a box lunch, and entry to the park and a bus with tour guide. If you registered for the conference, and didn’t sign up, you can add that to the registration. Contact registration chair Bill Whiteside, brside@verizon.net. Flag Ceremony One of the impressive things we have at the District Conference is the flag ceremony, where we march in with the flags of the 70 plus countries we have had either a project or an exchange with. This year we will combine the introduction of the Club Presidents and Presidents Elect with our flag ceremony. DGE Bob Hobbs and I will be introducing them, and the country represented by the flag they will carry. Rotarian Veterans In appreciation for our military veterans, we will recognize them and present them with a special Rotary pin on Saturday at the District Conference just after the National Anthem. Please let the military veterans of your clubs know all they have to do is register and attend, and we will ask them to stand and distribute pins. Guatemala Needs Help Milt Camp, Sonora Sunrise Rotary, sent along an email from a mutual friend from Guatemala, Juan Forster. Juan is trying to put together a project to shred tires to eliminate them as breeding grounds for mosquitoes. If anybody has access to get our hands on a shredder, please contact me at marko5220@yahoo.com and I will send along to Milt and Juan. Rotary Pride March 1 is the deadline to submit a note to Diana Barden, Rotary Pride Chair, nominating your club or an individual who exemplify "Rotary Pride". Saturday, April 29, will be Rotary Pride Day at the District 5220 District Conference. A day to wear club shirts, hats, aprons, pins, etc., and that night, at the Governor’s Ball, Diana and I will recognize an individual and a club who best shows Rotary Pride. The notes, or email received will also serve to select some Club Presidents to give their Rotary Pride moment from the podium at the District Conference. Send nominations to Diana at P O Box 1208, Madera CA 93639 or email jerrybarden@comcast.net. Angels Centennial Rotary Effective March 1, 2006, Angels Centennial Rotary will change their meeting location to CAMPS Restaurant at Greenhorn Creek. This was the location of the club’s Charter Night, and will be the location of their first Charter Night Anniversary Celebration. Awards Binders February is the last month to include activities of the club in the awards binders for the 05-06 Rotary year. They are due at PDG Phyllis Nusz’s office, 5250 Claremont Ave., Ste. 123, Stockton, CA by March 10. If you can’t deliver them to Phyllis, call your ADG, who will be invited to the judging. If you are giving binder to the ADG, email Phyllis at PJNusz@aol.com and let her know your binder is on the way. Riverbank Rotary Riverbank Rotary has moved their meeting location to the Riverbank Fire Hall at 3318 Topeka St. The club meets on Thursday at 7:15 AM and is always a fun club to visit. District Governor Nominee The nominating committee to select the District Governor for the 2008-09 Rotary year will meet on April 8, 2006. Now is time for clubs to look at their club leaders and encourage them to step forward. The candidates will need to have served a full term as Club President, been a Rotarian for 7 years, and been active at the Club and District level. Nominations will need to be endorsed by a Club in the District. Applications need to be sent to me by March 8, to qualify as a candidate .With Rotary Pride, Mark Oliver , District Governor |
