Pie in the Face

Sonora Sunrise Rotary President Sally Dunn took a pie in the face during the club’s Cajun Fest last Saturday night. My son and ADG from her club bought the honor at a club auction. Sally had challenged her club to have 100% attendance to earn the right to hit her in the face. I had to do the dastardly deed and it was a flashback to my Club Presidency (1978-79) when I did the same thing and had the same results. Sally, the governor is proud of you for going the extra step to help your club.

25th Anniversary

On October 23 Sonora 49er Rotary celebrated their 25th anniversary of the club’s charter. I was there along with many PDGs to show our support of the Club and the great work they do in their community and in the world community. President Sheri and her club are to be congratulated.

Silent Auction

PDG Phyllis Nusz has lined up some great silent auction items for the Foundation Dinner on November 4. Bring your checkbooks, buy an item and the money goes to The Rotary Foundation and is credited for PHF to the purchaser. She has arranged, “Pamper Packages”, Gift Baskets, Original Sketches, Oceanside Home, Earrings, Cosmetics, Golf Outings, Area Rug, Disneyland and Universal Studio Passes, Necklaces, $1,000 Saks shopping followed by lunch.

These are this week’s “True Rotarians” as chosen by their clubs:

Loss in the Rotary Family

President Larry Hite, Tracy Rotary, has advised me that James (Jim) French has passed away. Jim was well known in Rotary in the South San Joaquin County and a member of Tracy Rotary for over 50 years. Jim was a retired superintendent of schools in Tracy. He had 52 years perfect attendance and often made up at Manteca Rotary, where he had many friends. His many Rotary friends will miss him.

With Rotary Pride,

Mark Oliver, District Governor
