RI President’s Representative

I have been advised by RI President Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar that he has asked Past RI Vice President Frank C. Collins Jr. and Celia to represent him at our District Conference April 28-30 at the Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite. Frank and Celia are from East Hartford, CT and we will be getting and sharing more information as we receive it. PDG John and Myrna Hertle have agreed to serve as aids to Frank and Celia.

 His sister, Alice Botin, Club President of the Rotary Club of Alabat Island, Philippines, visited President Ray Caparros of Escalon Sunrise Rotary. The Brother/Sister Club Presidents from different countries is unusual and may be a first.

“Rotary Pride” Foundation Dinner

Friday, November 4, 2005 6pm to 10pm we celebrate our involvement with and support of The Rotary Foundation. Held at Modesto Centre Plaza, 10th and K Streets, Modesto (next to the Doubletree Hotel), the dinner will have as featured speaker, Trustee Carolyn Jones, the first female Trustee of The Rotary Foundation. Tickets are priced at $50 till Oct. 20, then $60. Dress is Black Tie Optional or come in native garb of a country you’ve supported through International Service. Reservation forms are on the District website www.rotary5220.org or from Reservation chair Liz Hosmer. Reservations and payments can be mailed to Liz at 318 Magnolia Ave., Modesto, CA 95354. Questions can be directed to Liz at (W) 209-522-3539 or  iz@capitoldoor.com.  Paid tickets will be mailed to clubs on Oct. 20 with table assignment and entrée choice. Priority seating is assigned based on receipt of payment. Reservations after Oct. 20 will be will call at the door. There will be no refunds after Oct. 20.

Rotary Fellowship Exchange

Stockton East Rotary is recruiting two more Rotary couples to participate in their exchange with District 3060, Gujarat, India. The dates of travel are December 26, 2005 to Jan. 9, 2006. The cost is roundtrip airfare of about $1,200 per person. Rotarians in D3060 will provide meals and housing. The couples are expected to return the hospitality in June 2006. Katrina Motorcycle Ride

Modesto Rotary is working on a motorcycle ride scheduled for Oct. 23, 2005. They will be registering riders from 6 AM to 8:30 AM at Vintage Faire Mall in Modesto. The ride will go to Henderson Park in Merced County, just East of Snellling. They have partnered with Kawasaki USA, the Maniac’s motorcycle club, Central Valley ROK, riders of Kawasaki motorcycle club of Modesto. Lunch will be served at the end of the ride, and there also is a raffle for a new motorcycle. Contact Mark Sackett, Central Valley ROK at 209-996-6709 or centralvalleyrok@sbcglobal.net. Proceeds will go to help with the medical clinic the club has sent to the hurricane are.
