Now I know good chess strategy is to Develop Both Knights before the Queen’s Bishop and another rule is Do Not Develop your Chess Pieces Exclusively on One Side, so if I follow this chess strategy: as a Rule Do Not Play a Piece beyond Your Own Side of the Board in the Opening, will this guy across from me think I'm cute?

The Northern California Scholastic Grade Level Tournament came off with out a hitch this past Novemeber 21st  & 22nd, 2009 in the exciting new De Rosa University Center Ballroom and Grace Covell Hall at the University of the Pacific.

290 players in grades K through 12 competed; Grades K - 3 for one day, Grades 4 – 12 for two days.  Competitors came from as far south as Coalinga and Merced; from San Jose, Fremont, San Mateo, Burlingame, Berkeley, Marin County, Sacramento, Folsom, Galt, Lodi, Tracy, and Stockton.  This was the 11th year North Stockton Rotary has sponsored the tournament.  The decision to move the tournament to UOP has been a good one for attendance, logistics, and the University.  These college-bound players have now played in 5 tournaments on the campus and their parents love the local.

John McCumiskey once again served as Tournament Director.  He and his tournament staff capably handled the usual challenges of last minute pairings adjustments and challenges by competitors up on tournament play rules. The proof is in the team coaches and parents reactions—more of their players attend each year.  North Stockton Rotary is proud to sponsor an event that brings so many families to Stockton for the weekend each year, show casing the University and our city.
